Algorithms for Hierarchical Spatial Reasoning

چکیده
In several applications, there is the need to reason about spatial relations using multiple local frames of reference that are organized hierarchically. This paper focuses on hierarchical reasoning about direction relations, a special class of spatial relations that describe order in space (e.g., north or northeast). We assume a spatial database of points and regions. Points belong to regions, which may recursively be parts of larger regions. The direction relations between points in the same region are explicitly represented (and not calculated from coordinates). Inference mechanisms are applied to extract direction relations between points located in different regions and to detect inconsistencies. We study two complementary types of inference. The first one derives the direction relation between points from the relations of their ancestor regions. The second type derives the relation through chains of common points using path consistency. We present algorithms for both types of inference and discuss their computational complexity.

Spectral-spatial classification of hyperspectral images by combining hierarchical and marker-based Minimum Spanning Forest algorithms
Many researches have demonstrated that the spatial information can play an important role in the classification of hyperspectral imagery. This study proposes a modified spectral–spatial classification approach for improving the spectral–spatial classification of hyperspectral images. In the proposed method ten spatial/texture features, using mean, standard deviation, contrast, homogeneity, corr...
متن کاملUsing Hierarchical Spatial Data Structures for Hierarchical Spatial Reasoning
This paper gives a definition of Hierarchical Spatial Reasoning, which computes increasingly better results in a hierarchical fashion and stops the computation when a result is achieved which is ‘good enough’. This is different from standard hierarchical algorithms, which use hierarchical data structures to improve efficiency in computing the correct result. An algorithm on hierarchical spatial...
متن کاملModelling a Hierarchy of Space Applied to Large Road Networks
Human beings use hierarchies extensively to simplify their conceptual models of reality and to perform reasoning more efficiently. Hierarchical structures are conceptually imposed on space and allow better performance of complex tasks in very large contexts. To understand how spatial hierarchies are formed and used is one of the most important questions in spatial reasoning research. In this pr...
متن کاملAssessment of the Performance of Clustering Algorithms in the Extraction of Similar Trajectories
In recent years, the tremendous and increasing growth of spatial trajectory data and the necessity of processing and extraction of useful information and meaningful patterns have led to the fact that many researchers have been attracted to the field of spatio-temporal trajectory clustering. The process and analysis of these trajectories have resulted in the extraction of useful information whic...
متن کاملHierarchical Information Maps
We discuss the problems of spatio-temporal reasoning in the context of hierarchical information maps and approximate reasoning networks (AR networks). Hierarchical information maps are used for representation of domain knowledge about objects, their parts, and their dynamical changes. They are constructed out of information maps connected by some spatial relations. Each map describes changes (e...
